Muir has been formally accepted as a conformant solution by the Partnership for Carbon Transparency (PACT), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development initiative that sets the global standard for calculating and exchanging product-level carbon data.
We have followed the PACT methodology for years. What changed is the formal step: Muir has now passed PACT's conformance testing and joined the ecosystem as a recognized conformant solution.
The PACT Methodology is a globally applicable, industry-agnostic method for calculating comparable product carbon footprints (PCFs) from supplier-specific primary data, aligned with ISO standards and GHG Protocol principles. The PACT Technology specifications define the data model and exchange protocol that let one company's PCF pass into another company's system and arrive with the same meaning it left with.
Conformance demonstrates that our solution has implemented PACT's data model and exchange protocol correctly, verified through peer-reviewed testing that WBCSD moderates. The result is interoperability: a PCF that Muir produces can be requested, received, and read by any of the 48-plus conformant solutions already in the ecosystem, without a custom integration for each counterparty.
For a buyer, the difference is practical. A carbon figure that cannot be exchanged in a standard format has to be re-entered, re-formatted, or re-verified at every handoff, and every one of those steps is a place for the number to drift or stall. A conformant figure moves once and stays intact.
Product-level carbon data is becoming a condition of doing business, not a voluntary disclosure. Buyers ask for it in procurement, regulators increasingly require it, and the value of a PCF depends on whether the next party in the chain can use it. PACT is the answer the market has converged on: more than 5,000 companies participate and over 4 million PCFs have been calculated through the ecosystem.
Muir's conformance means the carbon data our platform generates is exchangeable across that ecosystem by design. A manufacturer using Muir to calculate footprints across a complex bill of material can share those results with a customer, a supplier, or a reporting platform in the PACT format, and the recipient can consume them directly.
It also fits how Muir already works. Our platform reads a bill of material through BoM comprehension and, where supplier data or specifications are missing, builds a product twin from material and manufacturing databases so the footprint can be calculated even when primary data is incomplete. Conformance governs how that result is expressed and exchanged once it exists. The modeling capability and the interoperability standard are complementary: one produces a defensible number, the other makes it portable.
Our methodology is the same rigorous approach we have always used, and it continues to carry third-party assurance to ISO 14067:2018 for product carbon footprints. Conformance is a statement about interoperability, layered on top of a methodology that was already built to the relevant standards. Customers who have relied on Muir's PCFs do not need to change anything. What they gain is a formal, externally recognized guarantee that those PCFs travel cleanly across the systems their partners use.
