Muir AI Closes $3.25 Million in Funding

Muir AI closes $3.25 million funding to accelerate supply chain decarbonization.

Muir AI, a Seattle-based start-up, announced today that it raised $3.25 million in a seed funding round led by venture capital firm Base10 Partners. Other participants in the seed round included existing investors Madrona Venture Labs and Soma Capital. The funding will accelerate Muir’s development of AI technology to reduce emissions within corporations’ supply chain.

“An overwhelming majority of a corporation’s emissions footprint resides in its supply chain. Despite this, there is no good solution for companies to identify and implement actions to reduce these emissions. Companies are left to use low quality estimates or resource intensive supplier reporting campaigns, which fail to provide insights beyond direct suppliers,” said Muir co-founder and CEO Harris Chalat. “At Muir, we are building novel technology to address the largest and most challenging gap in corporate sustainability management. ”

Muir’s uses its proprietary databases and AI technology to generate actionable sustainability insights for companies. Carbon Origin, Muir’s initial service, provides comprehensive supply chain emission estimates for a company based on simple procurement data.

The novel technology breaks down each good to its material makeup, maps the flow of materials across likely sourcing countries, and estimates the emissions at each step. Carbon Origin’s granular insights provide customers the ability to identify cost-effective emissions reduction opportunities overlooked by other industry solutions.  Muir is servicing companies with complex, high emitting supply chains across the industrial, apparel, retail and consumer goods industries.

Muir's Carbon Origin service calculates detailed, granular product emissions.

"Base10 is excited to support Muir in helping businesses to better understand, account for, and reduce their supply chain's emissions,” said Rexhi Dollaku, General Partner at Base10 Partners. “Through our research within our portfolio and beyond, we believe this is a priority for many scaling corporations, and Muir's technology fills the gap of existing available solutions. We are thrilled to partner with Peter and Harris to help bring this solution to market."

The new investment will be used to advance Muir’s core capabilities of modeling global supply chain emissions and generating reduction recommendations, according to Peter Williams, Muir co-founder and CTO. “We are moving corporations from reporting their carbon footprint to reducing their emissions, this is critical to our success as a company and our collective fight with climate change.”

About Muir AI

Muir AI is an innovative Seattle-based company founded in 2022 by Harris Chalat and Peter Williams. The two met while playing football and studying aerospace engineering at MIT. They spent their careers at SpaceX and Amazon, developing cutting edge remote sensing and machine learning technology, before turning their attention to climate change. They started Muir to address the lack of actionable supply chain emissions data which provides an immediate opportunity to reduce emissions on a gigaton scale. Muir’s novel technology rapidly generates accurate and specific emissions data across entire supply chains, even when minimal data is available. Combining supply chain models, geospatial data, and emissions modeling, Muir fills the supply chain emissions data gap at scale.
